DesertX Shock Upgrade Kit – Engineered for Performance & Reliability
Our kit is designed to significantly improve suspension responsiveness and ensure consistent performance across a wide range of riding conditions.
The stock KYB rear shock on the DesertX features a 40mm bore body, 14mm shaft, rebound adjustment, a hydraulic preload adjuster – but no compression adjustment. While it’s a decent factory unit, it is better suited for road use than aggressive off-road riding. Riders often find it too soft, with insufficient damping when pushed hard on trails.
With our upgrade kit, these shortcomings are addressed. We’ve engineered a solution that delivers increased compression and rebound control throughout the entire stroke, resulting in improved stability, predictability, and rider confidence.
Stock spring rate: 8.8 kg/mm with just 2mm preload
Our tuning: upgraded damping settings based on dyno testing to increase control while maintaining compliance
Recommended spring: 9.5 kg/mm with more preload, providing a planted, confidence-inspiring feel off-road while retaining smooth road manners
Billet damping piston with a low-friction, graphite-filled endless band
Shim stacks developed specifically for the DesertX
Pre-drilled rebound separator for improved adjustability
Upgraded shock body end cap – more durable and easier to service than stock
The kit also includes a replacement shock shaft cylinder cap. The OEM part is prone to scratching and tricky removal; our redesigned version ensures easier servicing and longer-lasting reliability.
This is not a DIY kit. While no modifications to the included components are necessary, servicing a shock absorber requires specialist knowledge and tools. We strongly recommend professional installation by a qualified suspension technician.
Transform your DesertX into a true adventure machine – with suspension that works as hard as you do.
