We occasionally encounter cases of catastrophic shaft failure caused by a seized lower shock bearing. This issue tends to affect motorcycles with over 50,000 miles, especially when regular maintenance has been neglected.
Corrosion plays a major role in accelerating wear and seizure of the bearing, particularly in bikes exposed to wet or salty conditions. If left unchecked, the bearing can completely seize, putting excessive stress on the shock shaft and eventually leading to mechanical failure.
Regular inspection and timely replacement of worn components can prevent serious damage and costly repairs.
